A brief post...

...To kickstart a new sketchpad-

For the better part of my first year at SCAD, I'd been moderately diligent at keeping a livejournal blog... a practice which, most unfortunately, fell somewhat out of habit as time wore on. Looking back at it, I can't quite bring myself to continue posting- too much time has passed, and I would (1) feel an almost cumpulsory need to give an all-encompassing synopsis of the events that have transpired since last posting, and (2) be unable to shake a sense of intrusion... it would be as if I were to pull one of my old drawing books from the attic, open it, and start filling in blank pages with my NEW sketches. Nothing wrong with that, I suppose. But thee's a certain part of me that likes to leave the musings of 19-year-old Andy well enough alone, and start afresh in a new notebook.

(An aside- this not to say that I'm pretentious enough to think "OH, I'm a CHANGED PERSON now, how could I EVER tresspass upon the pages of my FORMER SELF, so young, so immature, etc. etc... I just like keeping these things seperate. That's all. Of course, The fact that i just typed the above sentance indicates that I DID of course think it. But it was not part of the original thought process, just a concern of miscommunication that occured afterwards. This I promise, as we finally move on from this wretched paragraph.)

My family (sans dad and Ethan- the former staying home to watch after the latter) just got vback this evening from a midnight screening of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (which was fantastic by the way) and I'm awaiting Natalie's call as to her reaction to the film. (Natalie is, as of this writing, watching the movie in Grauman's Chinese theater with a midnight audience- an experience I'm quite looking forward to hearing about.) As it was, our audience was amazing- as most midnight audiences tend to be. Gasps, laughs, tense silences- all perfectly placed and conductive to the atmosphere. It's a pefect theatrical experience- of course, if anyone is willing to pay $8 to stay out until 3AM watching a genre movie, you can pretty much bet that all of the rifraff has been weeded out and only the most hardcore fans remain. Which, in the case of Major Geek Films (Potter, Lord of the Rings, any comic book movie) is an EXCELLENT thing. The movie was a blast.

(Another aside- what exactly is the past tense for "to weed"? Weeded? Wed? Alas.)

(Okay, still another aside- but has anyone ELSE taken notice of the local police force's extreme suspicion towards local 21-year-olds, when they are found riding their sister's pink bicycle around the neighborhood at 1 in the morning wearing swim trunks? Have they not heard of excercise??)

And with that, a final glance at the clock (4:38 AM) and a check of my phone to see if Natalie is out of her screening (she's not), I regret to inform y'all that it is getting close to my bedtime. Supposed advenure awaits tomorrow. I'll have to tell you about it.

Andy
